Broadcast amplifies unverified Israeli claims

"Over the past 20 months of genocide Israel has been caught out in countless lies. This is so well documented that all Israeli claims should be delivered with skepticism and be challenged. Anything less is sloppy journalism. There should also be a Palestinian voice in all such stories. This is a “conflict” so there are at least two sides, but we so often hear only one."

Dear Global News Broadcasting team,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding your broadcast “Dozens killed, over 200 injured after gunfire at Gaza aid distribution centre erupts” reported by Candice Cole and which aired on June 1st, 2025.

I want to thank you for leading the segment with images of Palestinian suffering and victimization by Israel, although I wish you had more balanced voices in the segment. The IDF spokesperson, Effie Defrin, is given a prominent place in the broadcast and his lies go unchallenged and without a Palestinian counterpoint. It is telling that the Israeli in your segment is given a name and title while all the many Palestinian victims were anonymous and therefore dehumanized.

Furthermore, I want to bring to your attention that the IDF’s and GHS claim that no

incidents of violence have been entirely discredited by a CNN forensic investigation.

The network found strong evidence, including geolocated video and eyewitness

accounts, that the IDF opened fire on crowds of starving Palestinians seeking aid in

Rafah.

Israel has a long-documented record of peddling disinformation. This includes the

February 2024 “Flour Massacre”, where over 100 Palestinians were killed while seeking

food. Despite Israeli denials, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor’s forensic investigation

proved IDF responsibility. This is the same playbook we’ve seen repeatedly, only now in

Rafah.

Over the past 20 months of genocide Israel has been caught out in countless lies. This is so well documented that all Israeli claims should be delivered with skepticism and be challenged. Anything less is sloppy journalism. There should also be a Palestinian voice in all such stories. This is a “conflict” so there are at least two sides, but we so often hear only one.

Lastly, I have a question for you.

Will this error be corrected on air or will a follow up piece be broadcast (if it hasn’t already) that clearly states the Israeli spokesperson was lying?

Again, I thank you for reading my feedback. I hope you take it seriously.
