Thank you for an excellent article with one suggestion for revision

"As early as 2024, Israeli intelligence agencies have said they consider the numbers reported by the Gaza Health Ministry "generally accurate" and use them internally. Why is that fact left out of your otherwise excellent article?"

June 3, 2025

Dear Mr.Mussett and Mr.Vincent,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the article, RCMP investigating potential war crimes in Gaza conflic? that was published in the Star on June 3, 2025.

First of all, thank you for the article highlighting the RCMP investigation re:potential war crimes related to Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza. It is disappointing that so few details were made available to you about the scope of the investigation. I appreciated that you reported on the obvious contrast with their probe into alleged war crimes in Ukraine where the investigation is more openly acknowledged and known to the public.

However I do have one critique. Your claim that Israel has "challenged’ the number of Palestinians who have died as a result of the actions of Israeli Defense Forces is contradicted by the report of Israeli intelligence officers. As early as 2024, Israeli intelligence agencies have said they consider the numbers reported by the Gaza Health Ministry "generally accurate" and use them internally. Why is that fact left out of your otherwise excellent article?

I urge you to revise your article to include this omission. The public relies on reporting that is accurate and balanced.

Again thank you for the article and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Debbie Hubbard
