Request to revise headline to attribute responsibility to Israel

"Reports confirm that both the Israeli occupation forces and US mercenaries have been deliberately shooting at unarmed Palestinians waiting for food. The matter of the fact is that Israel has manufactured a famine while turning aid into death camps."

July 4, 2025

To the Toronto Star and Associated Press newsrooms,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (www.cjpme.org) regarding the Associated Press-sourced article published by the Toronto Star on July 4, 2025.

Although the article was overall fair, I have concerns about its headline, which fails to attribute responsibility to Israel for killing Palestinians in airstrikes and for shooting at Palestinians who were waiting for humanitarian aid: "Dozens of Palestinians killed by airstrikes or shootings while waiting for aid."

Reports confirm that both the Israeli occupation forces and US mercenaries have been deliberately shooting at unarmed Palestinians waiting for food. The matter of the fact is that Israel has manufactured a famine while turning aid into death camps.

I kindly ask your headline to be changed to clearly attribute responsibility to Israel.

Without this attribution in the headline, Palestinian suffering risks being portrayed as occurring in a vacuum, rather than as the deliberate result of Israel’s ongoing bombing and so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation scheme which was designed to further humiliate Palestinians of their inherent right as human beings to food, medicine, and other essential needs of life.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I await your response.
