"Were eyewitnesses contacted? Were United Nations officials or independent investigators consulted? The absence of these perspectives amounts to single viewpoint reporting from a military involved in the incident. This is another violation of Canadian journalistic principles of balance, fairness, and accountability."

Dead Global News Morning team,
I am writing to express my concern regarding a segment aired on Global Durham – Global News Morning on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 7:40a.m., which reported on the latest Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and the fatal shooting of Palestinians at an aid distribution site.
The segment stated: “31 Palestinians were fatally shot en route to an aid distribution site in Gaza,” but failed to identify who carried out the shooting. This exclusion breaches the journalistic standard of accuracy as the actor(s) who killed Palestinians, whether the Israeli military of affiliated contractors, are concealed of their culpability. In an active conflict, where patterns of civilian targeting have been well-documented, failing to name the shooter is a form of whitewashing. It shields those responsible from scrutiny and accountability, thereby contributing to a climate of impunity.
Furthermore, the report unquestioningly platforms the Israeli military’s claim that a deadly airstrike was the result of a “technical error,” without including any balancing information, critical framing, or alternative sources. Were eyewitnesses contacted? Were United Nations officials or independent investigators consulted? The absence of these perspectives amounts to single viewpoint reporting from a military involved in the incident. This is another violation of Canadian journalistic principles of balance, fairness, and accountability.
I urge you to take this matter seriously, review the editorial decision to whitewash the perpetrator who killed Palestinian civilians behind this segment, and issue a correction or a follow-up segment that addresses the missing context and perspectives.
I await your response,
Anthony Issa
