Article frames Israel as the victim

"This is the press, an irresponsible press. It will make the criminal look like he's the victim and make the victim look like he's the criminal. If you aren't careful the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." Malcolm X. 1964

Dear Associate Press editorial newsroom,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding your wire article, “UN-backed team focusing on human rights in Palestinian areas announces resignations” written by Jamie Keaten and published July 15, 2025.

I want to express concern for the following passage, “The resignations, announced Monday by the U.N.-backed Human Rights Council that set up the team, come as violence continues in Palestinian areas with few signs of letup in the Israeli military campaign against Hamas and other militants behind the Oct. 7 attacks.”

This is very skewed “reporting” that tries to frame Israel as the victim acting in self defence. This is a tired old trope that is not credible anymore nor is it worthy of an AP article.

For instance the passage “violence continues in Palestinian areas.” A slippery use of language that fails to reveal the source of violence – Israel – and tries to vaguely paint the Palestinians as the problem.

Is the newsroom aware that the world has been watching Israel massacre Palestinians every day now for 648 days? Over 60,000 Palestinians have been slaughtered, 2 million  are being starved, and thousands are being held illegally in Israeli prisons in deplorable conditions and many are being tortured.

The “Israeli military campaign against Hamas and other militants” is an outright lie meant to mislead the reader. This 21-month reign of cruelty is a racist genocide being carried out against all Palestinians. Ask the parents of 50,000 slaughtered and injured children if this is a “campaign” against Hamas and other militants. Ask the doctors who have been treating them.

I request that you correct this inept passage immediately and that future reports reflect reality as it is, not an inverted version of it.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response,

Jeff Winch
