Footage at 4:46:10 exposing settler violence against Palestinians and military complicity, along with the segment where the CBC crew is followed by ultranationalist Jewish settlers from an illegal outpost, are effective in helping Canadians understand the severity and tactics of intimidation first-hand.
To CBC Vancouver CBUT newsroom,
I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express appreciation for the segment aired on CBC Vancouver (CBUT) at 4:45AM on September 23, 2025 regarding Israel’s illegal settlements in the West Bank.
There are many strong aspects of this segment. CBC gave space to numerous Palestinian voices like Hiba Husseini and some local experts, including from the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture, rather than relying only on what “Israel says”. Inclusion of Palestinian perspectives is extremely important, as is showing the daily realities of Palestinians farmers in Jericho, recent Israeli military operations displacing families from homes in decades-old refugee camps, and communities cut off by the apartheid wall.
Footage at 4:46:10 exposing settler violence against Palestinians and military complicity, along with the segment where the CBC crew is followed by ultranationalist Jewish settlers from an illegal outpost, are effective in helping Canadians understand the severity and tactics of intimidation first-hand.
Importantly, the segment acknowledges international law and challenges Canada’s recognition of Palestine as symbolic without concrete measures taken to dismantle Israeli apartheid.
This kind of fair and informative coverage is very much appreciated and will help leverage Canada’s “shift in policy” in a way that will bring justice for Palestinians and peace for all.
Sincerely,
Alison Jenkins
