I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) about your article “Hamas dissolves its government in Gaza to transfer power to a UN-backed committee” by Wafaa Shurafa and Samy Magdy with files from Melanie Lidman in Jerusalem, published on July 6, 2026.
While I appreciate the information in this article there is a very dangerous omission. It is reported that five Israeli soldiers have been killed since the "ceasefire" began on October 10, 2025. Unfortunately the number of Palestinians killed by Israel is not reported. On average five Palestinians have been killed every day since the fake ceasefire began. This is omission bias and does not adhere to basic journalistic standards of fairness, balance and impartiality.
The number of Palestinians killed is far greater than the Israeli death toll by many orders of magnitude. Over 1,000 have been killed since the “ceasefire” began and another 3,500 injured. It is shameful to gloss over this mass murder with one line, “The strikes have also killed many civilians.”
I ask that you amend this article in keeping with journalistic standards mentioned above and to be respectful of the huge loss of life suffered by the people in Gaza.
