Without Justice, There Can Be No Peace

While the article is a factual report of Trump’s tit-for-tat, schoolyard-bully-style leadership and how he is responding to Carney’s latest words and actions, it provides very little context around the “Board of Peace” itself. The article reads more like a colonial gossip column or an American reality-TV show script than a serious political piece.

To the Globe and Mail newsroom,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (www.cjpme.org) regarding your news article titled: “Trump withdraws Carney’s invitation to Board of Peace.”

More important than the “who’s in and who’s out” of the Board is the who’s ethnically cleansed and who’s planning to construct shimmering buildings atop an estimated 68 million tonnes of rubble and war debris, where thousands of bodies remain buried.

Crucially, the article fails to mention the Palestinians at all, the very people this proposed development is materially affecting. Palestinians have not been consulted at any stage of this process and will not be represented on the Board. International experts have strongly criticized the imperialist vision of Trump’s so-called master plan, which they say reduces the ongoing catastrophic genocide to an “investment opportunity”.

This article falls short of basic journalistic standards of balance and accountability. By omitting Palestinian perspectives, essential facts about Trump’s plan for Gaza, a deeper analysis of why European politicians have declined to sign on, or expert opinions, you are presenting the next phase of the genocide as an unquestioned pathway toward peace.

We urge you to include critical perspectives and essential context regarding Trump’s “Board of Peace” in future reporting, especially perspectives that center Palestinian voices and expose how colonial powers mask intentions of occupation under the rhetoric of peace.

Sincerely,

Nikki Mutch
