Covering an event by Tafsik legitimizes the group and its extremism.
To the National Post,
I am writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to express my concern for once again platforming Tafsik in your article “'Zionism won': Jews earned Israel, Ben Shapiro tells Toronto audience.”
I take issue with this passage in particular:
“Produced by Tafsik, a Toronto-based pro-Israel group, and Stop Antizionism, it brought out many marquee names, including U.S.-based Eve Barlow and Lizzy Savetsky, Montrealer Gad Saad, and non-Jewish online allies American vet Nick Matau, Syrian-born Rawan Osman, and UAE-based Loay Alshareef.”
The group Tafsik has repeatedly promoted Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism, and extremist Zionist rhetoric online The self-described “Maccabee warriors” promote Kahanists like Michael Rapaport, called the Palestine movement an “Islamic, Marxist death cult,” and referred to Palestinians as “savages.”
Covering an event by Tafsik legitimizes the group and its extremism.
I urge the National Post to review its editorial vetting processes for fringe organizations and request that an editorial note or clarification be appended to the digital version of this article to provide readers with the necessary context regarding Tafsik's public rhetoric.
