Constructive feedback regarding Project Montreal motion

However, perspectives from supporters of the Projet Montréal motion are notably absent. As such, the article is one-sided and fails to meet journalistic standards of fairness and balance laid out in the Canadian Association of Journalists ethics guidelines.

To the Suburban,

I’m writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express concern about the article titled “Motion to have Montreal cut "institutional ties" with Israel off the table... for now” published on June 15, 2026 by the Suburban.

This article quotes from a statement that Mayor Martinez Ferrada “worked on herself throughout the weekend”, and includes a quote from the pro-Israel lobby group Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and Federation CJA.

However, perspectives from supporters of the Projet Montréal motion are notably absent. As such, the article is one-sided and fails to meet journalistic standards of fairness and balance laid out in the Canadian Association of Journalists ethics guidelines.

I urge the Suburban to correct the article by adding a reaction from the Projet Montréal  coalition, and/or an organization that supports its motion, in order for this article to align with the standards set out in the Canadian Association of Journalists ethics guidelines

Sincerely,

Alison Jenkins
