We particularly appreciate Mr. Lett’s clear stand that truth telling must take precedence above all else, even it if gives offence. As Mr. Lett states, it is simply wrong to claim that the Nakba exhibit is somehow an attack on “all Jewish people.” Indeed, for anyone to claim that all Jews are somehow responsible for Israel’s actions would be a textbook case of antisemitism.

I’m writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East regarding Dan Lett’s column published last Wednesday, titled “Winnipeg museum’s core mandate is to confront inconvenient truths.” We are grateful to Mr. Lett and to the Free Press for pushing back against those who would silence a critically important museum exhibit that tells a story that all-too-few Canadians have heard.
We particularly appreciate Mr. Lett’s clear stand that truth telling must take precedence above all else, even it if gives offence. As Mr. Lett states, it is simply wrong to claim that the Nakba exhibit is somehow an attack on “all Jewish people.” Indeed, for anyone to claim that all Jews are somehow responsible for Israel’s actions would be a textbook case of antisemitism.
There is one point we would like to raise regarding Mr. Lett’s choice of language. While the Nakba did indeed involve the “forced displacement” of 750,000 Palestinians, the better term for what happened would be “ethnic cleansing.”
