Dear Ms. Ramadan, Ms. Martin and Mr.Walmsley,I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the article, Israel tests ceasefire after drone strike reportedly kills four in Lebanon that was published in print and online in The Globe and Mail on July 6, 2026.
My concern is with the headline for your article which was first published by Reuters. Headlines and language are powerful in terms of framing a story or issue in the minds of the reader. The key message of the Reuters article is that four Lebanese citizens were killed, violating the ceasefire - not that Israel was ‘testing the ceasefire’. Your headline detracts from that message.
In the interest of accurate and fair reporting, we therefore ask the headline be changed to specifically mention that Israel is violating the ceasefire agreement, not “testing” it.
At the very least I would ask that you change your headline to match the headline that was used for the Reuters article. I might add that the Reuters article original headline was revised to remove the ‘testing ceasefire’ wording.
If you are not willing to make the change, I would ask that you explain to me why you have chosen a headline that detracts from the key focus of the article.
