Aug 3 on-air interview with Kevin Vuong

"This segment is riddled with misinformation and racism. Mr Vuong repeats allegations as if they are fact and gets so much wrong. Regarding the suspect of the US consulate shooting. The man in question, Mohammad Al-Saadi, is an Iraqi national and there are no proven links between him and Hezbollah in Lebanon."

To the CKTB 610 newsroom,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding your interview with Kevin Vuong which aired at 17:40 P.M. on August 3, 2026.

This segment is riddled with misinformation and racism. Mr Vuong repeats allegations as if they are fact and gets so much wrong. Regarding the suspect of the US consulate shooting. The man in question, Mohammad Al-Saadi, is an Iraqi national and there are no proven links between him and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

I believe Mr. Vuong was referring to accusations of Al-Saadi being tied to the Iraqi militant group Kata’ib Hizballah, which are still not proven.

Vuong states this is all “In cahoots with the Islamic republic” which is also unproven.

Is it also irresponsible of Mr. Vuong that he does not inform his audience that Toronto Police have previously stated that several recent shootings targeting Jewish institutions in Canada, including  the U.S. consulate were the work of hired criminals, mainly youth just over or under the age of 18.

Police Chief Myron Demkiw has publicly stated that the shooters themselves are being paid for these acts and that investigators believe bad actors are using criminal elements in Toronto to carry out these dangerous incidents. These statements suggest that the immediate motivation of the alleged shooters may have been financial, while the ultimate organizers and motives remain under investigation.

This kind of platform given to Mr. Vuong and the host by CKTB promotes fear and hatred and has no place on Canadian airwaves. This is exactly the kind of speech that puts innocent people in danger.

Moreover, the host of the show makes a blatantly false claim by stating that Clinton gave the West Bank to the Palestinians. Absolute nonsense. The Palestinians were already in the West Bank long before the state of Israel or Bill Clinton were born. It is your hosts who need an education on Anti Palestinian Racism

Your host and guest committed three of the classic tropes of Anti-Palestinian Racism in this interview segment:

  • Failing to acknowledge Palestinians as an Indigenous people with a collective identity, belonging and rights in relation to occupied and historic Palestine;

  • Erasing the human rights and equal dignity and worth of Palestinians;

  • Defaming Palestinians and their [non-Palestinian] allies with slander such as being inherently anti-semitic, a terrorist threat/sympathizer or opposed to democratic values.

Surely 610 Newstalk can find people who know what they are talking about on this issue and have some credibility rather than the former Liberal MP Kevin Vuong who was arrested in 2019 over a sexual assault charge.

This segment is full of misinformation and is dangerous. This in turn damages the credibility of CKTB.

To uphold basic standards of broadcast accuracy and compliance with the CAB Code of Ethics, I demand that you issue an on-Air correction regarding the historical status of the West Bank.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your prompt response.
