As journalists, I know you understand the power of repetition in messaging. In this short segment, you use the words “relocate” twice, and “remove”, “migration” and “get them out” once each, for a total of five instances to establish the idea of Israel’s plan in the mind of the listener. By contrast, there is one quick mention of human rights groups noting this amounts to ethnic cleansing.
To CBC Radio One newsroom,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) about a segment with Crystal Goomansingh reporting from Jerusalem that aired on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at approximately 9:00:12 a.m. EDT.
I would like to thank your team for highlighting Israel’s plan for ethnic cleansing. For far too long, the media and governments in the West have resisted calling what Israel is doing genocidal. However, the Israeli government has always made it painfully clear through their own words and actions that this has always been the plan.
We encourage you to continue to highlight their ongoing crimes. However, we would also suggest that rather than paraphrasing government officials in a manner that downplays their crimes by using terms like “relocation”, which is used for corporate executives working abroad, the CBC speak in terms that are apt descriptors for crimes against humanity.
The CBC has a duty to balance this article with some facts about these crimes without glossing over it like a footnote. I encourage you to contact one of these human rights groups for comments the next time you address Israel’s ongoing genocide in occupied Palestine and to examine their words and actions against international law.
We appreciate this work very much and encourage you to keep exposing the Israel’s crimes.
Sincerely,
Nikki Mutch
