Concern regarding Boy George/PNE concert coverage

To the Global News, 

I'm writing to you on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express our concerns regarding a TV segment on Boy George's upcoming Vancouver concert, which aired on Global News Okanagan on September 1, 2026.

The segment reported that Boy George is facing calls to cancel his September 7 performance at the PNE's Summer Night Concerts series, following the release of a new single that frames Israel's military response to the October 7th attacks in sympathetic terms. Your segment included a statement from the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) thanking the PNE for standing by its commitment to freedom of expression. However, no comparable space was given to Coordinated Action for Palestine, the group organizing the September 7 protest, to explain its reasoning for doing so. Viewers heard that the group was "organizing a September 7th action to stop Boy George," but were given no account of why.

We ask that Global News Okanagan follow up with Coordinated Action for Palestine (or another named organizer of the September 7 protest) for an on-record quotation explaining the basis for the protest, and include it in a follow-up segment or online update to this story.

Balanced coverage of a controversy requires giving each side's stated rationale, not just one side's rationale alongside the other side's activity. We'd ask that this standard be applied consistently as this story develops ahead of the September 7 concert.
