"We encourage CBC to continue to uphold journalistic standards while informing the Canadian public on such important and pressing issues, and drawing attention to Palestinian voices, perspectives and issues that are often sidelined in Canadian mainstream media."
To CBC Colleagues,
I’m writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME, https://www.cjpme.org) to express appreciation for the article “Safe but excluded: Bureaucratic hurdles keep refugee kids from Gaza out of school” published yesterday.
Both the journalist and the outlet deserve thanks for this thoughtful and detailed article, which highlights and humanizes the unfair bureaucratic hurdles and double standards faced particularly by Palestinian refugees, over and above the “usual” challenges that all refugees experience settling into Canada.
The fact that Alberta is depriving school-aged refugee children of education (and its concomitant social connections) for bureaucratic reasons is abhorrent and unacceptable - and deserves much more attention from the media.
We encourage CBC to continue to uphold journalistic standards while informing the Canadian public on such important and pressing issues, and drawing attention to Palestinian voices, perspectives and issues that are often sidelined in Canadian mainstream media.
Sincerely,
Alison Jenkins
