The Associated Press and Globe and Mail should amend this article to either remove Netanyahu’s racist quote, further examine the sentiment behind it, or add a Palestinian perspective in the interest of fair and balanced reporting. Why would a wanted war criminal feel threatened by the people he is trying to systematically and intentionally ethnically cleanse from their homeland having a voice in Israel’s government?
Dear Globe and Mail editors,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) to express my concern about your article titled: “Arab-led parties make historic showing in Israeli election with no clear winner emerging,” published on October 28, 2026.
In particular, I take issue with the platforming of a wanted war criminal with little to no context regarding his baseless and frankly racist rants in sentences like this:
“On Wednesday, Netanyahu warned against a ‘dangerous government’ that might include Arab parties, whose constituents make up 20 per cent of Israel’s population.”
I believe that the Globe and Mail and Associated Press have a duty to inform its readers that the population that makes of 20 per cent of Israel’s population are the Palestinians who managed to remain in their homes after the Nakba, a campaign in which Israel violently expelled inhabitants from 200 Palestinian towns and villages in 1948.
In 1952, they were granted Israeli citizenship, which means they have the right to vote in a democratic election. Despite this fact, Palestinian citizens face growing threats to their political and collective rights, including voter suppression.
I await your response,
Nikki Mutch
