Please help us thank the Globe and Mail and Geoffrey York for an excellent article about Canada's dilemma regarding South Africa's action in taking Israel to the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.

  • Since Canada is likely to oppose the South African application, the article mentions that it would be hypocritical of Canada as it is in support of human rights cases against Myanmar, Syria, Iran, and Russia.
  • York mentions how the evidence in Myanmar's case can be applied to Israel: forced displacement, diet subjugation, medical services below the minimum, as well as the intent of Israel's actions.
  • The article gives voice to law experts such as Mark Kersten, an assistant professor of criminal justice at the University of the Fraser Valley who specializes in international justice issues, and Alex Neve, an international human rights lawyer and senior fellow at the University of Ottawa's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
  • York highlights Canada's behavior in opposing anything that would make Israel accountable for its actions under international law while reaffirming Canada's obligations under the Genocide Convention to prevent genocide.

We encourage you to send a letter to Globe and Mail's Geoffrey York to keep pushing them in that sense.

Since we've included the email for submitting letters to the editor, you may consider writing your letter such that it could be published in the letters section. Globe and Mail asks for letters of 150 words or less.
