Global News omits Palestinians despite relevance to story

The video segment fails to give space and voice to Palestinians about October 7 and acknowledge anti-Palestinian racism and islamophobia crimes that have also been on the rise. In counterpart, it gives voice and space to many Jewish people and pro-Israel organisations, CIJA and UJA.

Please help us challenge Global News at 5:30 Toronto for one-sided and unfair coverage of the reactions and actions in Canada since October 7. This segment mainly focuses on the Jewish community and antisemitism, while falling into conflations and biases.

  • The video segment fails to give space and voice to Palestinians about October 7 and acknowledge anti-Palestinian racism and islamophobia crimes that have also been on the rise. In counterpart, it gives voice and space to many Jewish people and pro-Israel organisations, CIJA and UJA.
  • Similarly, the video segment doesn’t mention the barriers that cause underreporting of hate crimes against Muslims and Palestinians.
  • It conflates antisemitism and antizionism. Many examples are given are clear examples of anti-Zionism -- albeit, sometimes, taken too far. In all, this video segment doesn’t fairly depict pro-Palestine BDS actions and seeks to falsely depict them as antisemitic.
  • The segment overlooks the ICJ’s case by South Africa against Israel, in which it has already been found that it is plausible Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. It is highly unfortunate that this context was excluded.
