An article from the Globe and Mail from Tuesday was constructed in a way which reflects extreme bias against Palestinans.  Please join us in critiquing this article about the resignation of BC’s Minister Selina Robinson following her insensitive comments about Palestine and Palestinians.

  • The article doesn’t give a full picture of who was behind the “intense pressure” that led to the resignation of Minister Selina Robinson, mentioning only “Muslim and First Nations leaders.”  A very popular petition calling for Robinson's resignation demonstrated that support came from all spheres of society: educational groups, civil rights groups, etc.
  • The authors do not provide explanations as to how and why Robinson’s comments were particularly racist and offensive from the get-go. They only quote Naomi Klein and Hani Faris at the very end of the article. Klein and Faris’ comments should have been near the top of the article.
  • The first person quoted in the article from civil society is Nico Slobinsky, a spokesman for the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), who suggested that Robinson was targeted because she was Jewish. Giving CIJA reps the “first word” on anti-Palestinian racism diverts the attention from the real issue at hand: the outrage of Canadians at Robinson’s offensive and racist language.
