A recent Globe and Mail article omits essential context about Israel’s systematic targeting of UNRWA infrastructure, Trump’s genocidal intentions to ethnically cleanse Palestinians in Gaza, and the erasure of the Nakba.

  • The article discusses how UNRWA is struggling to provide social services to Palestinians in occupied Gaza, yet omits that Israel has repeatedly targeted UNRWA infrastructure, including airstrikes on UNRWA-run schools and hospitals.
  • The Globe and Mail whitewashes the Nakba, describing the creation of UNRWA as merely a response to Palestinians losing their homes and land with the formation of Israel in 1948, without providing the crucial context that 700,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homeland, 15,000 were massacred, and 500 towns were destroyed. This omission is part of a broader pattern of anti-Palestinian racism in The Globe and Mail’s coverage.
  • The article uncritically echoes Trump’s call for the "relocation" of Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan without mentioning that the permanent forced displacement of a population in an occupied territory is prohibited under international humanitarian law and constitutes a war crime. Human Rights Watch explicitly stated in its February 5, 2025, report that Trump’s plan for the "voluntary migration" of Palestinians is designed to “escalate ethnic cleansing in Gaza.”
