Globe and Mail Editorial Board flips reality on its head

"Rather than center the piece on the plight of Palestinians in Gaza who are facing genocide and famine, the Globe and Mail is more concerned with Israel’s reputation and losing their 'war' against Hamas — not the fact they are committing war crimes."

CJPME is deeply troubled with The Globe and Mail’s editorial pleading for Israel to allow aid into the Gaza strip. Rather than center the piece on the plight of Palestinians in Gaza who are facing genocide and famine, the Globe and Mail is more concerned with Israel’s reputation and losing their “war” against Hamas — not the fact they are committing war crimes.

  • It repeatedly casts Palestinian civilians as tools of Hamas, describing them as both a "shield" and a "weapon." This grotesquely strips them of agency and humanity and contributes to the normalization of collective punishment. Further, evidence has emerged of Israel using human shields, including testimonies of former Israeli soldiers.
  • The piece also casts doubt on reliable casualty figures from the Gaza Health Ministry and echoes unsubstantiated Israeli claims about aid theft without citing sources or offering counterbalance. Furthermore, new reports have found no substantial evidence of systemic diversion of aid by Hamas. This promotes disinformation and delegitimizes Palestinian institutions and humanitarian agencies.
  • The editorial omits any mention of war crimes, collective punishment, or genocide, despite the enormity of civilian suffering. It treats starvation and bombardment as PR failures for Israel rather than as legal and moral atrocities.
  • While acknowledging mass starvation in Gaza, the editorial argues that increasing humanitarian aid should be done to serve “Israel’s own interests.” The editorial also excludes any mention of war crimes, collective punishment, or genocide, despite the enormity of civilian suffering in Gaza. It treats starvation and bombardment as PR failures for Israel rather than as legal and man-made atrocities that will forever remain a stain on humanity’s record.
