The Globe and Mail wants to silence Palestine activism

"In its recent editorial regarding Prime Minister Mark Carney's speech on antisemitism, The Globe editorial board falsely equates anti-Zionism with antisemitism in order to delegitimize peaceful advocacy for Palestinian human rights as hateful rhetoric aimed at the Canadian Jewish community."

In its recent editorial regarding Prime Minister Mark Carney's speech on antisemitism, The Globe editorial board falsely equates anti-Zionism with antisemitism in order to delegitimize peaceful advocacy for Palestinian human rights as hateful rhetoric aimed at the Canadian Jewish community.

This editorial is the latest in a long chain of work by the Globe and Mail's editorial board that unshakingly supports Israel and demeans Palestin

We're asking our Media Responders to file letters to the editor pushing back against this unfair framing. Letters to the editor must include your name, address and daytime phone number. Try to keep your letter under 150 words. Newspapers sometimes edit for length and clarify.

Here are some optional angles for a letter:

  • The editorial conflates antizionism with antisemitism. The Globe and Mail unfairly references hundreds of protests in Canada as evidence of antisemitism. They state that pro-Palestine protesters incite hatred because of their criticisms of Israel.

  • The editorial discusses anti-Zionism without mentioning why anti-Zionist sentiment has grown. There is no discussion of the genocide of Gaza, Israel occupation, illegal settlements, forced displacement of Palestinians in the occupied territories, or any acknowledgment of Israel's horrible record on Palestinian human rights

  • The editorial never mentions the rise anti-Palestinian racism or Islamophobia.

  • All of these issues in the framing of this editorial, risks delegitimizing peaceful protest and protected political expression linked to Palestine in Canada.
