The National Post has yet again published an opinion piece by Terry Newman that reads as a mouthpiece for Israeli propaganda.

  • The opinion repeats the claims made by the ambassador of Israel to Canada that the Nakba exhibit is “highly contested” and uncritically repeats that the exhibit presents the establishment of the State of Israel primarily through a 'twisted' lens of Palestinian dispossession while disregarding essential historical realities.
  • The opinion also uncritically repeats the claims made by the ambassador Moed who claims that “narratives that delegitimize Israel serve as the entry point for hostility toward Jewish communities around the world.” The Nakba was a deliberate and systemic campaign of ethnic cleansing against Palestinians to establish a Jewish state in Palestine. It has nothing to do with hatred against Jews. Palestinians did not choose who would occupy and dispossess them.
  • While columnists are entitled to their own opinion, Newman’s piece crosses a red line by uncritically repeating the claims made by the ambassador Moed under the guise of fair commentary.
  • While Newman's past columns accused the Palestinian ambassador of foreign interference for meeting with a museum staffer, no such allegation is made when an Israeli official pressures the Canadian government to prevent the Nakba exhibit from happening.
  • Please help us in writing to the National Post. Portraying the Nakba as disputed and suggesting that real Palestinian history is somehow antisemitism is a bad faith attempt at weaponizing the real fight against antisemitism to prevent the Nakba exhibit from happening. This should have no place in Canadian media and we need your support to keep the media subject to the highest journalistic standards.
