 Poor coverage – Media outlet to be critiqued

The National Post has once again published an opinion piece that abandons factual accuracy in favour of pro-Israel propaganda. While opinion writers are entitled to express their views, they are not entitled to invent facts or ignore established international legal proceedings. This article misrepresents the ICC warrant on Netanyahu, dismisses credible reporting on Palestinian casualties, and promotes narratives that minimize or justify Israel's mass violence against Palestinians.
- A National Post columnist falsely characterizes allegations that Israel is committing genocide as a "false narrative," omitting that the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. The warrant is for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including starvation as a method of warfare, intentionally directing attacks against civilians, murder, and persecution. This is not to mention the conclusions of UN commissions and human rights organizations.
- The article also casts doubt on the Palestinian death toll by referring to it as the "Hamas number," implying that it is unreliable. This is misleading. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) relies on casualty data from Gaza's Ministry of Health, whose reporting has consistently been regarded as credible by the UN and humanitarian organizations. Even Israel has acknowledged the veracity of the death toll figures. Importantly, many consider the death toll to be a significant undercount of Palestinian deaths.
- Please help us in writing to challenge these inaccuracies and the anti-Palestinian narrative being spun in the opinion pages of the National Post. The National Post should correct the public record and ensure that opinion pieces meet the basic journalistic standard of factual accuracy. This should have no place in Canadian media and we need your support to keep the media subject to the highest journalistic standards.
