Please help us challenge the Globe and Mail for not giving Palestinians a voice in an article which speaks of Israel's threatened attack on the city. The article also fails to provide important context with respect to Israel’s threatened actions.
- While the article quotes Israel’s official position on the attack, and the that of UN officials, it fails to get input from a single Palestinian, whether in Gaza or elsewhere.
- The article fails to mention the fact that the ICJ concluded just weeks ago that accusations that Israel was committing a genocide were “plausible.” It would be important for this article to mention that Israel’s invasion might be considered genocide.
- The article also fails to mention that the ICJ called on Israel to take all measures to prevent genocidal acts, and take steps to ensure Gaza civilians receive humanitarian aid. There is no mention that Israel’s invasion would contradict these court orders.
- The article fails to mention the context of Israel’s occupation and oppression of Palestinians. The international legal consensus – including Amnesty International – is that Israel currently imposes a regime of apartheid on Palestinians.
