On August 21, 2026, CJPME media advocate Debbie Hickey was published in the Kingston Whig-Standard and Napanee Guide. She responded to an op-ed by Geoffrey P. Johnston highlighting the killing of children in Gaza and the comparatively limited media coverage of their deaths.
In her letter, Hickey welcomed Johnston’s focus on Palestinian children, while arguing that the article should have been more forthcoming about Israeli forces’ responsibility for these deaths. She also highlighted concerns that Canadian military components and supplies continue to reach Israel through indirect channels despite Canada’s stated restrictions on arms exports to Israel.
