"Anti-Palestinian racism must be named when Palestinian-Canadians and their allies are targets of politically motivated assaults."
Re: We shouldn’t turn a blind eye to assaults on Muslim women
Dear Editor,
Sheema Khan’s recent article rightly condemns the surge in Islamophobic attacks on visibly Muslim women. Yet it notably omits the rise of anti-Palestinian racism, which is also deeply relevant to many of the cases she cites such as those targeting women at pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
This exclusion, intentional or not, is troubling. Anti-Palestinian racism is a distinct and growing phenomenon in Canada, recognized by the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association and the Federal government through the Canadian Guide to Understanding and Combating Islamophobia. Anti-Palestinian racism must be named when Palestinian-Canadians and their allies are targets of politically motivated assaults.
If we’re serious about combating racism in all its forms, we must ensure that Palestinians and their narratives are not silenced.
