Re: International law is broken

Re: International law is broken

Dear Editor,

Irwin Cotler’s views on international law justifies a return to a pre-1945 world where might makes right. This is the kind of logic that the Globe’s editorial board appeared so opposed to in “Trump’s break with the post-war order is a direct shot at Canadian sovereignty.

While acknowledging that U.S. and Israeli actions violate international law, the Globe still entertains arguments like that of Cotler’s in order to justify that our rules-based-order can be bent if it is perceived to benefit our allies' geopolitical interests.

When the Globe dismisses international law as a "shield for a rogue state," it’s Iranian civilians (and now Lebanese civilians) who suffer for this so-called “moral” war.

This matter is not complicated: Canada should hold its allies to the basic standards of international law.
