Re: "Israeli court acquits border police officer charged with killing autistic Palestinian man"

"An Israeli soldier who shoots a simple-minded autistic Palestinian cowering next to a garbage bin, is cleared of all culpability.  The article hits all the right points: Israel’s investigations of its soldiers almost never lead to convictions, witnesses are often not even consulted; surveillance cameras in the area supposedly weren’t working."

Julia Frankel’s article, “Israeli court acquits border police officer charged with killing autistic Palestinian man” (July 6, 2023), is a tragic reminder that, sadly, apartheid is alive and well in 2023.  An Israeli soldier who shoots a simple-minded autistic Palestinian cowering next to a garbage bin, is cleared of all culpability.  The article hits all the right points: Israel’s investigations of its soldiers almost never lead to convictions, witnesses are often not even consulted; surveillance cameras in the area supposedly weren’t working.  Amnesty and others have long highlighted Israel’s apartheid practices against Palestinians, but impunity for the killing of a harmless Palestinian autistic reveals Israeli apartheid at its ugliest.
