Thank you for citing Professor Finkelstein’s work and sharing his story

"I am astonished that so many journalists in Canada want to silent voices critical of the IDF, and the actions of the State of Israel, when so many of your colleagues have not only been silenced, but killed."

Dear Mr Mudhar,

Thank you for your story about Professor Finkelstein’s views, while controversial in some circles, even saying some things that I disagree with, should not and must not preclude him for speaking at the Toronto Library today.

I know as journalists it is easy to pull out the most controversial statements and magnify then to stir more controversy, especially backed by detractors and extremist groups like Bnai Brith. But more responsible journalism, as I am sure you were taught, should balance a story. In this case thank you for citing Finkelstein’s body of work and scholarship over decades, and his life a son of holocaust survivors.

I wonder if and hope that you and the Star will do a story about the 50 plus journalists who have been killed by the Israeli Defence Forces? I am astonished that so many journalists in Canada want to silent voices critical of the IDF, and the actions of the State of Israel, when so many of your colleagues have not only been silenced, but killed.

Than you for your moral courage and profession standards by which you write stories that balance and inform, not cherry-pick and distort.
