Re: “When it comes to peace in Palestine, talk is cheap but getting something done is not”

"Israel is increasingly seen as a settler-colonial state that has been shielded from criticism for far too long, and no matter what happens, this is how it will be seen and remembered on the international stage."

Walkomʼs opinion piece is a good reflection on the lack of political will and action to face the Palestine question once and for all. Western nations have failed time and again to force Israel to comply with international humanitarian law and, as a result, bear significant responsibility for the way it is behaving today. However, Walkom failed to acknowledge another group, the court of public opinion from Palestinians in the diaspora and their allies. The court of public opinion was a decisive factor in the US losing support for the Vietnam War. Similarly, since October 7, Israel is no longer seen as an invincible, above-the-law state that can protect its citizens by committing genocide. Israel is increasingly seen as a settler-colonial state that has been shielded from criticism for far too long, and no matter what happens, this is how it will be seen and remembered on the international stage.
