Thanks for inviting Palestinian-Canadian Maryam Nasser to your show

"Maryam Nasser’s valuable perspective informs listeners on how Canada’s actions demonstrate a racist double standard that is highly offensive to members of the Palestinian-Canadian community."

Julia Wright, Radio Host, CBC News

Dear Ms. Wright,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East to thank you for the “Information Morning – Saint John with Julia Wright” segment in which you interviewed Maryam Nasser to discuss Canada’s latest immigration policies for Gazans, aired on January 24, 2024.

What I found most helpful in your segment is that you allowed Maryam Nasser to respond to Marc Miller’s pre-recorded response to criticism of Canada’s emergency immigration program for Canadians with family members in Gaza. Maryam Nasser’s valuable perspective informs listeners on how Canada’s actions demonstrate a racist double standard that is highly offensive to members of the Palestinian-Canadian community. While Marc Miller justifies the various ways this program differs from Canada’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Maryam Nasser bluntly states that racism is what separates humanitarian efforts for Gazans and humanitarian responses for Ukrainians. Nasser’s impassioned retort to Marc Miller represents the national outcry for Canada to leverage its international position and do more domestically for Palestinian Canadians and Gazans alike.

Thank you, Julia Wright, for having Maryam Nasser on your show and lending your microphone to someone who has a stake in Israel’s brutal war on Gaza. Please continue to do so.

Sincerely,

Rose Mardikian,
