"There are fears from local authorities in Jenin that what is happening in Jenin and the rest of the West Bank is part of a much bigger plan to annex the Occupied West Bank. Global News should clarify their report that Israel has shown no clear evidence that it is “targeting terrorist infrastructure” in Jenin."

Dear Mr. Dove and Mr. Sekhon,
I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) to express both concern and scepticism about the news report that aired on all Global Morning Live stations across Canada on February 4, 2025.
To describe what is happening in the occupied West Bank and specifically in Jenin as ‘raids’ is totally inadequate. What the residents of Jenin are experiencing are ‘direct and deliberate’ attacks and bombings on their homes resulting in displacements, deaths and injuries. Global News should use clear and appropriate language to describe Israel’s onslaught, not weak and euphemistic language that misleads your listeners.
The United Nations human rights office has described Israel’s methods in the West Bank and Jenin as those typical of the methods used for war fighting. The UN Security Council reports that 20,00 residents in the Jenin refugee camp have been displaced. A report from the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine to the Security Council also says that, as of January 30, Israel’s ongoing attacks, part of the “Iron Wall” operation, have resulted in “death or injury of children, women, and elderly people,” another important detail that is omitted from your segment.
The premise according to Israel is that they are ‘targeting terrorist infrastructure’ to prevent it from developing in Jenin. This is similar to the narrative that we heard during the assault on Gaza without any evidence that the homes and buildings targeted in either situation were actually connected to terrorist activity. In reality, there are fears from local authorities in Jenin that what is happening in Jenin and the rest of the West Bank is part of a much bigger plan to annex the Occupied West Bank. Global News should clarify their report that Israel has shown no clear evidence that it is “targeting terrorist infrastructure” in Jenin.
I urge you in future reports to use language and voices that help Canadians understand what is truly happening and not soften the language or fail to provide perspectives from Palestinian officials, the United Nations or other reputable international human rights organizations.
Sincerely,
Debbie Hubbard
