Segment on West Bank could use more context

"While I appreciate that the segment includes references to international criticism on Israel’s annexation policies, the overall framing and language of the report are heavily reliant on Israel's administrative decisions. The real story is that Israel is ramping up its attempts at ethnically cleansing the West Bank of Palestinians."

Dear CBC editorial newsroom,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) to express concern regarding your broadcast segment reporting on CBC Newsroom with Andrew Nichols which aired on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 2:40:28 P.M.

The segment was on Israel’s policies to annex the occupied West Bank, as reported by CBC correspondent Saša Petricic from Jerusalem.

While I appreciate that the segment includes references to international criticism on Israel’s annexation policies, the overall framing and language of the report are heavily reliant on Israel's administrative decisions. The real story is that Israel is ramping up its attempts at ethnically cleansing the West Bank of Palestinians.

The segment briefly references fears of “de facto annexation,” it should be stressed and more clearly indicated that these actions are illegal under international law. Canadian viewers need to understand that Palestinians in the West Bank face a regime of brutal ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, apartheid, and war crimes.

I hope future coverage of the occupied West Bank clarifies this context with stronger language.
