I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) about your article “Canadian Museum for Human Rights trustee resigns,
cites ‘one-sided’ Palestinian exhibit” by Steven Chase, published on June 22, 2026.
While I appreciate some of the balance of this article it irresponsibly omits a Palestinian voice or perspective as the story of the Nakba demands. It also lacks a progressive and empathetic Jewish representation of which there are many - Independent Jewish Voices and Jews Say No to Genocide to name only two.
Another telling omission is the right of return owed to Palestinians who suffered the Nakba under international law. This right has been illegally denied to Palestinians for 78 years now. Mr. Berlin and the mainstream media conveniently leave out this detail.
I take exception to your phrase in the third paragraph that states, “750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced between 1947 and 1949 during fighting over control of what is now Israel.” This is not only factually inaccurate but highly misleading. The Nakba was a planned and systemic campaign of ethnic cleansing carried out by Israel against the native Palestinians. The situation then, as it is now, was absolutely asymmetrical. Palestinian villages were razed to the ground and dozens of massacres were committed against Palestinians by Israeli paramilitary forces. This is hardly a conflict over “control” but rather a clear case of ethnic cleansing.
I ask that this article gets corrected to meet journalistic standards of accuracy and truth.
