Your artice normalizes attacks on press freedom

To the CP24 and AFP editorial newsrooms,

I am writing on behalf of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) regarding the article “Israeli minister urges probe into sources in award-winning Gaza film.”

The article’s framing is dangerous and gives prominent and largely unchallenged space to serious accusations made by Israeli officials against the filmmakers of the documentary NAZA.

Also, the article does not provide a meaningful response from the filmmakers to either the allegation of treason or the characterization of their work as antisemitic.

Your current framing perpetuates calls from ministers in positions of power to undemocratically revoke the citizenship of journalists. This violates journalists ethics through one-sided perspectives that go unchallenged and denying the filmmakers a right of reply.

I ask CP24 and AFP to update this article to include responses from the filmmakers and frame these official threats as attacks on press freedom.
