The Israeli forces have long used the pretext that journalists are affiliated with armed groups to justify their killing. We have seen these unfounded allegations repeated time and time again. In 2025, Israeli officials falsely alleged that martyred journalist Anas al-Sharif was affiliated with Hamas, a claim which was then rejected by Al Jazeera affirming he had no such affiliation.  Continue reading

I am urging the Globe and Mail to take heed of the CBC Ombud's review and adopt a similar position and publish a correction. Otherwise, the Globe and Mail is perpetuating inaccurate information that is critically important for readers considering relevant international legal considerations regarding the responsibilities of an occupying power and the rights of occupied people. Granted that opinion writing allows for interpretation and argumentation of facts, it must still adhere to fundamental journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and responsible framing expected of Canadian news outlets. This op-ed fails to meet those standards and advances precisely the type of unsupported and harmful generalizations the NNC has previously ruled against. Continue reading

The Canadian Association of Journalists’ Ethics Guidelines emphasize that accuracy is a fundamental pillar of responsible journalism. The article should therefore be corrected to clearly identify Israel’s attacks on medical and humanitarian personnel for what they are: violations of international law that constitute war crimes. As it stands, the article amplifies findings from a biased and methodologically limited survey while omitting critical nuance and sensationalizing its conclusions. In doing so, it misleads readers into believing that a single viewpoint is broadly representative of Iranian Canadians, or of Iranians more generally. Iran is not politically homogeneous, and responsible reporting must avoid sweeping, unsupported conclusions.  Continue reading
