Serious Concerns Regarding Bias and Balance in Journalism

I also didn’t realize that Israelis could hear it. What you have highlighted here is that Israelis don’t have to listen to the sound of their war crimes any longer — except Israel has already violated the ceasefire of this so-called “peace deal” several times. I would imagine they are still hearing it and are able to go about their day all the same.  Continue reading

Concerns regarding article about Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners

It is unfair and an affront to the dignity and rights of Palestinians to end the article in this way, without referring to abundant evidence of  “systematic and widespread perpetration of sexual and gender-based violence, torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment inflicted on Palestinian detainees by Israeli military and security forces” as detailed in a recent UN Special Committee report.  Continue reading

Article removes onus of blame from Israel regarding famine in Gaza

There is a serious lack of context that removes accountability from Israel, the occupying power that has been denying the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and most importantly which has been causing the “human catastrophe” in Gaza in the first place. Continue reading

Feedback on article about Gaza and the scene in Montreal

This passage omits important key context. Students in Canada and all across North America organized encampments to demand that their universities divest from weapons manufacturers and companies complicit in Israel’s genocide. These are the same companies that produce parts for F-35 fighter jets used in the bombardment of Palestinians in Gaza. This context is critical for readers to understand why encampments happened in the first place. Continue reading

Double standard & lack of context regarding Palestinian detainees released yesterday

There is a double standard and lack of context in this passage. While it is mentioned that 20 Israeli hostages were released as part of phase one of the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, it fails to mention that the same agreement included the release of around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees from Israeli prisons. Continue reading

Lack of context regarding Israel’s use of adminstrative detention

While the author allows Canadian politicians to vent outrage at the “heinous terrorist attacks” of Oct. 7th, there is not a syllable acknowledging the two years of genocide endured by Palestinians. For 735 days we saw 735 relentless massacres of innocents in Gaza. This fact cannot be left out of the article if you are going to mention October 7th multiple times. Continue reading

Feedback on article about Palestinian political prisoner Marwan Barghouti

It is misleading to describe Israeli settlers as merely “taking over much of the territory,” as though this were a natural or benign process. Israeli settlements constitute a clear violation of international law (specifically, Article 49(6) of the Fourth Geneva Convention) and represent the illegal occupation of Palestinian land. Continue reading

Request for correction of estimated deaths of Palestinian professionals

We feel that it is really important to be clear and not downplay the horrors that are unfolding or the level of criminality in what Isreal is doing. For this reason, I would urge you to change the word “hundreds” to “thousands”. Continue reading

Thanks + constructive feedback on student strikes

Describing it as the “Hamas-run” Health Ministry is not a neutral designation; it is a politically loaded term that portrays Palestinian hospitals as suspicious and untrustworthy - as if the facts must first pass through a filter of suspicion. Continue reading

Thanks for the Oct 7 article on St. John's city council's support of Palestinians

In addition to highlighting the role that municipal politics can play in putting pressure on the federal government on behalf of the community concerned about Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, and providing multiple examples of similar initiatives at municipal level across Canada, the article points out clearly where Canada is falling short, such as the disparity in Canada’s refugee and visa programs for  Palestinians vs. Ukrainians and Afghans, and Canada’s continued export of military components to Israel.  Continue reading
