Feedback on June 27 segment

While I appreciate this inspiring story of Palestinian women’s strength and tenacity, well-timed during FIFA, which gives much-needed space for Palestinians to give their perspectives, the story is undermined by the lack of recognition of why Palestinian women are facing these challenges in the first place. "Israel says X" is not journalism

Misinformation is a key part of Israel’s playbook, repeatedly used as part of its public relations strategy to justify its massacres, the illegal detention of Palestinians, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing. Continue reading

Issue deserving of on-air correction

In this case, the presentation of comment was not full, fair, and proper. How might viewers react to this ‘expert commentary’ differently if they were aware of Varner’s role with the Exigent Foundation? CJPME believes the interview might be interpreted in a vastly different manner. Continue reading

Concerns regarding recent article by Dave Gordon

As an Exigent Voice he is expected to promote “Exigent’s educational mission and public-interest work.” All of the above constitutes not only the appearance of bias, but a material conflict.  Continue reading

Thank you for highlighting Israel's deliberate targeting of children

An insurgency is a condition of revolt against a government. I don’t think it is an apt descriptor of Israel's actions in this case, in the name of accuracy and in accordance with CBC’s JSP I would suggest changing it to "invasion" or "assault" or as every international body has described as an ethnic campaign of genocide from the ICJ to Amnesty to the United Nations. Feedback regarding article on Gaza

In an otherwise factual article, the final boilerplate paragraph which frames the conflict as having started October 7, 2023, and describes the Gaza offensive as “retaliatory,” has no doubt been chiseled into the AP stylebook somewhere. Continue reading

Thank you + feedback regarding Nakba exhibit

The framing that the Nakba is a “divisive topic” is unfair. The Nakba itself is a historical fact. There is no division about the Nakba. It happened.    Continue reading

Constructive feedback regarding article on Israel-Lebanon agreement

Otherwise as is, the timeline effectively erases the past year and a half of constant bombardment from the reporting, and treats the south as though it is not part of Lebanon. Continue reading

JNS article merits immediate attention

Referring to the occupied Palestinian territories as “what the UN global body calls them” reproduces precisely a form of anti-Palestinian erasure that fails to acknowledge Palestinians as an Indigenous people with a collective identity with rights in relation to occupied and historic Palestine. It is also misleading and inaccurate and merits a correction. Continue reading

June 25 News Report from Gaza

Leading the article with the perspective of a Palestinian woman in Gaza is much appreciated and rare in our current media landscape. It is also vitally important that victims are duly honored in news reporting. It is refreshing to hear the truth spoken about the fake ceasefire that has not made a whit of difference for Palestinians. In fact, this news segment would be relevant for every day in Gaza since the fake ceasefire was announced. Continue reading
