Thanks for article on Israel's siege

Let’s not forget this situation is not rooted in crop failure, drought or UN funding reductions. The core of the problem comes from a single source; a cruel Israeli siege. Something your article does not directly mention except when it is alluded to in the second photo and its caption. Nevertheless we appreciate that you are keeping Canadians informed of this terrible situation. Continue reading

Thank you for using the term 'ethnic cleansing' in your segment on Israel

As journalists, I know you understand the power of repetition in messaging. In this short segment, you use the words “relocate” twice, and “remove”, “migration” and “get them out” once each, for a total of five instances to establish the idea of Israel’s plan in the mind of the listener. By contrast, there is one quick mention of human rights groups noting this amounts to ethnic cleansing. Continue reading

Segment should specify settlements are illegal under IL

Even in a brief segment, the report would have been more accurate and balanced had it specified that Israeli settlements are illegal under international law. Continue reading

Kites are not threatening

The rationale for the kite-flying ban? Kites make Israeli settlers living nearby feel threatened. Although none of the home-made kites that have sparked Netanyahu’s ban by drifting over Israeli airspace have carried incendiary devices or explosives of any kind, they might have. Israel would have us believe that even Palestinian children at play are dangerous terrorists. Continue reading

Segment on Montreal City Council

We call upon you to remind your personnel of their obligation to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the journalistic profession. They must do at least the bare minimum of asking follow up questions of their interview subjects, rather than leaving every last assertion unchallenged. What self-respecting journalist or media outlet could possibly argue that this is asking too much? Continue reading

Feedback on article about Palestine Action

In fact the company has long been the target of international boycott campaigns due to its direct role in profiting from and sustaining Israel’s apartheid regime and ongoing genocide against Palestinians. Continue reading

Thanks + feedback on balanced article regarding confrontation at City Hall

The article did a very good job at including pro-Palestinian perspectives, including giving space to demonstrator Zev Saltiel, a member of Independent Jewish Voices Montreal and Montreal Anti-Apartheid who specified that the same man approached the crowd and began directing insults at people there.  Continue reading

Pejorative intent in framing Palestinian death tolls

As has been pointed out previously, Hamas is synonymous with terrorism in CBC’s media framing of this conflict. As such, the addition of the “Hamas-run” or “Hamas-led” qualifier is inherently pejorative in intent. By associating the civilian suffering with Hamas, it effectively diverts sympathy away from those people killed and injured, and helps demonize and dehumanize Palestinians. Continue reading

Thank you for addressing the conflation of antisemitism and anti-Zionism

The intentional and dangerous conflation of antisemitism and anti-Zionism is the agenda of white nationalists, war profiteers, and anti-Palestinian organizations and it should be concerning to all Canadians that our government continues to push this narrative. Continue reading
