Thanks for recommending film about the experiences of Palestinian citizens of Israel

Palestinian perspectives are often silenced or deliberately left out of Canadian public discourse, and the mention of works such as The Flag that document Palestinian narratives is a positive start to educating and better informing the Canadian public about Palestine. Continue reading

One sided attack against support for Palestinian activism and solidarity

Unfortunately, your article fails to provide a response to these claims from Palestinians and their allies. Given that you have reported on B’nai Brith’s claims, which depict the Palestinian movement in a negative light, it seems appropriate and necessary to include a response from those who are being targeted. It is not only Jama who is affected by these false and unfair claims which conflate human rights activism with antisemitism. Continue reading

Thanks for including children's book on Palestinian diaspora

I was particularly pleased to find that you included the book Homeland: My Father Dreams of Palestine, which explores the Palestinian perspectives on the diaspora and forced displacement. Palestinian perspectives are often silenced or deliberately left out of Canadian public discourse, evidenced by attempts to censor books that discuss Palestine or even include a historic map of Palestinian. By including this book among your recommendations for young readers, you are highlighting Palestinian narratives and experiences and how their lives were upended by the 1947 UN plan to partition historic Palestine. Misleading and inaccurate headline regarding letter about anti-apartheid advertisements

The headline chosen by Saltwire is misleading and reflects the precise opposite of the points made in the letter. A more accurate headline would be “Anti-apartheid advertisements appear on Metrobus,” or “Advertisements in support of Palestinian self-determination appear on Metrobus." Continue reading

Missing context in article about virtual reality in Gaza by Toronto Telegraph

I appreciate that you published an article about new virtual reality classrooms in the occupied Gaza strip. It is important for publications like Toronto Telegraph to provide Palestinian stories to Canadian audiences. Although you do describe Gaza as an “impoverished coastal enclave” at one point in the article, you provide absolutely no context as to why the region is “impoverished” or under duress. You have a journalistic responsibility to provide such context to the reader.  Continue reading

Re: "BDS movement antisemitic"

If Michael Mostyn has a definition of antisemitism which implies that Palestinians are undeserving of self-determination and basic rights codified by international humanitarian law, then perhaps he needs to rethink his definition of antisemitism. Continue reading

Re: “No moral equivalence”

The author claims that there is no moral equivalence between Israeli and Palestinian violence. He’s right, but for the wrong reasons. This year, the significant death toll of Palestinians during violent Israeli military “arrest raids” in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is again showing the world the reality of Israel’s brutal military occupation. Continue reading

Re: Dozens rally against anti-Palestinian racism in Halifax

A citation of ACLA’s definition of anti-Palestinian racism and the various forms it may adopt would be pertinent in calling attention to racist attitudes that Palestinians must frequently confront. Continue reading

Palestinian casualties omitted from CTV article

In an article focused on Israeli Minister Smotrich’s call to “erase” Hawara and Netanyahu’s response, it is alarming that the description of events leading up is so one-sided. The two Israeli brothers who were killed in the leadup are mentioned, but the Palestinian casualties are omitted. In a story about erasing a town, this is essential information. Continue reading

Palestinian narrative on Halifax Kufiyah ban highlighted in CTV News

Your news segment highlights the racist incident at Park West School in Halifax where six Palestinian students were targeted for wearing the Kufiyah by the school’s principal. I commend you for your thorough coverage of this incident. I especially appreciate that you interviewed two members of the Palestinian community, including a parent of one of the students targeted, as well as a member of Independent Jewish Voices Canada.
