MAP ALERT!: Another Saltwire article gives a distorted narrative

Saltwire published another problematic article by Reuters on the same subject as our last alert: a soft, uncritical story on the Israeli’s apparent condemnation of settler attacks. This time a US angle was added. Continue reading

MAP ALERT!: Saltwire story amplifies Israeli military narrative and excludes Palestinian voices

Saltwire published an article by the Reuters wire service that read like a press release from the Israeli military. Please demand that Saltwire and Reuters update their piece, add Palestinian voices, and refrain from one-sided reporting of this kind going forward. Continue reading

MAP ALERT!: Toronto Star coverage falls short on including Palestinian Perspective

The article could also be criticized for 1) not interviewing any authoritative Palestinian sources, 2) not digging deeper into Israeli soldiers’ impunity by interviewing human rights experts, and 3) using an article title which whitewashes the issue of Israeli indifference to such abuses. MAP ALERT!: Omission of Palestinian sources in the Toronto Star about Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank

In fact, they state that Israeli forces indiscriminately opened fire toward the entrance of the village in the incident that injured the Palestinian toddler. By using only Israeli sources, the Toronto Star/Associated Press provide a VERY one-sided view of the incident.  Continue reading

MAP ALERT!: Send thanks to CBC's Day 6 for featuring an art exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Nakba

It highlighted the art exhibition The Mathematics of the Palestinian Nakba75 curated by Palestinian architect Antoine Raffoul. The exhibition — based on the possessions Antoine’s father was able to carry and recover — is an important documentation of the historic violence endured by Palestinians. It is also a testament to the history and deep connection that Palestinians have to their homeland. Continue reading

MAP ALERT!: Article about Nakba event whitewashed and unpublished from the Kingston Whig-Standard

The headline was changed to replace the word “expulsion” with “displacement,” which downplays the fact that Palestinians were forced from their land and homes and creates a factually inaccurate portrayal of the 1948 Nakba. Continue reading

MAP ALERT!: Please thank CBC News for for covering Winnipeg rally in commemoration of 75th anniversary of the Nakba

The article covered a rally organized by Palestinian Winnipeggers near the Manitoba legislature to commemorate 75 years of the Nakba, and the dispossession and violence that the Palestinian people have endured. The article also interviewed members of the local Palestinian community, including Rana Abdulla, the founder of the Canadian Palestinian Association of Manitoba. Continue reading

MAP ALERT!: One-sided coverage in The Globe and Mail about MPP's tweet supporting Palestinian hunger striker

The article does not mention the context of Israel’s abusive practices against Palestinians. Most of the time that Palestinian hunger striker Khader Adnan spent in prison was in administrative detention, a widespread practice in which Israel holds Palestinian detainees indefinitely without charge or trial. Adnan was not convicted or charged with terrorism, and his death was widely condemned by human rights groups and UN experts. Continue reading
